There is something that we know to be for sure. When it is spring, we all get a little frisky. When it is raining, we all either wish we had or use an umbrella. When we are feeling blue, there is nothing more comforting than the love of someone familiar. When we are in the presence of something or someone special, words are hard to find to describe the feeling we are left with. You just know it. There is a trigger inside of all of us that tells us when we have just felt something out of the ordinary, something bigger than the regular. There is a name for the human personification of this feeling. We call them “Stars” and when you see a real one you just know it. More rare is the star that has not yet fully risen in the sky of our collective consciousness. One glimpse in the bottomless green eyes of Ashley King, and you know you have just seen something rare indeed. But it is when she opens up and sings her songs full of love, and a certain “green eyed soul” comes out, that you are left with no doubt at all.

KA — Describe the Ashley King sound?
AK — There are so many influences in the music that it has been very difficult to put a genre on it. It’s a mix of electronic beats, funk, soul, house, r&b, jazz – and when they are put all together, the simplest way I can describe it is “Electrosoul”.
KA — How did your musical journey start?
AK — I’ve been singing since I was a kid, but nothing more than a hobby that I loved, since my surrounding reality was not in any way helping me to bring this dream into existence. However, one day an angel said to me (without ever hearing me sing) “You have a voice, let me help you find it” — and since that day, this man has been my producer and has not given up on me ever since. I’ve been lucky enough to have found my style, my voice and message in these past 4 years, and now it’s time for it to be heard.
KA — Where would you love to perform?
AK — Anywhere in front of at least 1 person who loves, hears and believes in my music — and maybe for an instant, I can affect that person ( or a million people ) in a positive way.
KA — What is the new album like, Love Revolution?
AK — Love Revolution has a strong message. It’s about waking up and seeing the love that is around you, and inside you — as we are here for only a small amount of time, so we might as well make the very best of it! The key is to open your eyes and see not only your reality, but have compassion for the ones who are hurting in this world.
KA — Why the title Love Revolution?
AK — We all need a Love Revolution. I know there are legions of angels fighting behind this idea — and that’s the strongest message I can put out right now. Something in my heart told me to do it.
KA — You are the ambassador for My Heaven Foundation what is your mission?
AK — To do my best in spreading the word that Jamaica is a beautiful country, and the children are full of hope — but it has for so long been neglected. This island is not only about the beautiful beaches and ocean that we all safely travel there on vacation. The reality is that this paradise is hit by poverty, violence and hunger and we need to do something and help give the tools for them to grow as a people.
The mission is also to spread to the rest of the Caribbean islands and help build schools and orphanages for the young children who are left without homes and education.
KA — What do you wish to achieve this year 2010?
AK — My goal is to help rise the first school in Jamaica under the My Heaven Foundation. All my performances will be charity-driven and so will the profits of my Love Revolution album release this Spring.
KA — What influences your music?
AK — All the magic around me.
KA — How goes the battle to self realization?
AK — I’m in it every single day, and the key is to jump in the fight and do your best to stay in the light.
